Taxes were never really a 9-to-5 problem
So why should tax help keep 9-to-5 hours?
Night Ledger is the longtime brainchild of tax professionals Jennifer and Phil, built around something they’ve known for years: most people aren’t thinking about their taxes at 10:00 in the morning.
They’re working. Running a business. Taking care of their family. Meeting clients. Making payroll. Performing. Creating. Living their lives.
Then evening comes, the day finally quiets down, and that’s when the laptop opens, the paperwork comes out, and the tax questions begin.
That’s why Night Ledger is open from 4 PM to 2 AM.
With decades of tax experience between them, Jennifer and Phil have spent their careers helping individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and businesses navigate everything from straightforward filings to complicated tax situations. But their approach to service was shaped by more than the tax industry.
Both have backgrounds in hospitality and entertainment. Jennifer was a musician for more than fifteen years, and Phil has tended bar since 1991. Those are industries where you quickly learn that great service isn’t about asking customers to rearrange their lives around your schedule. It’s about being there when they actually need you.
Night Ledger brings that philosophy to tax preparation.
We’re a remote tax firm designed for people whose lives don’t conveniently stop between 9 and 5. Whether you’re finishing your workday, closing your business, putting the kids to bed, or finally getting a chance to deal with the tax folder that’s been staring at you all week, we’re here.
Experienced tax professionals. Modern remote service. Hours that make sense.
Who prepares your return?
Night Ledger is Jennifer Carroll, EA and Philip Shipman, EA. Every return is prepared and reviewed by an Enrolled Agent — a tax professional licensed by the federal government and admitted to represent taxpayers before the IRS in any state.
Jennifer Carroll, EA
Tax Strategist · Small Business Specialist · Night Owl by Necessity
Jennifer has been preparing taxes since 2003 and is an Enrolled Agent licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS. With more than two decades of experience, she specializes in small businesses, complex individual returns, and the tax issues that tend to come with unconventional careers and complicated financial lives.
Her clients have included individuals and families, entrepreneurs, and multimillion-dollar businesses, with particular experience in industries like music, entertainment, tattooing, and other creative and independently owned businesses.
Jennifer believes tax help should fit into your life — not require you to rearrange it. That philosophy helped inspire Night Ledger: experienced tax professionals available during the hours when business owners and busy people finally have time to deal with their taxes.
Philip Shipman, EA
Tax Professional · Detail Guy · Resident Late-Night Problem Solver
Phil has been preparing taxes since 1993, giving him more than three decades of experience working with individuals, families, rental property owners, self-employed taxpayers, and small businesses.
An Enrolled Agent licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS, Phil spent part of his career with a large national tax company before moving into a more personalized practice where he could spend less time treating returns like transactions and more time actually getting to know his clients.
Phil is known for his attention to detail and his ability to work through tax situations ranging from straightforward returns to complicated self-employment, rental, and business filings. At Night Ledger, he brings decades of experience to a very simple idea: good tax advice should still be available after everyone else has gone home.
The tax night tradition
Long before tax preparation moved online, people were already doing their taxes after hours.
They came home from work, sat down at the kitchen table with forms, receipts, pencils and calculators, and worked through their returns late into the evening. And every April, there was that familiar Tax Day ritual: finishing at the last minute and heading to a post office staying open late to make sure the return received its April 15 postmark.
Taxes may have gone digital, but people’s lives haven’t changed all that much.
Most of us still aren’t working on our taxes in the middle of the day. We’re doing it after work, after the business closes, after dinner, after the kids are settled — when we finally have time to think about it.
Night Ledger was built around that reality.
Tax preparation has always been an after-hours activity. We just decided your tax professional should be available then, too.
